How do we incorporate therapies into our programme?

We take an integrated approach to therapy, embedding speech and occupational therapy into each child’s weekly routine while keeping sessions dynamic, responsive, and engaging.

  • Children receive one hour of SLT per week with a therapist, which may be delivered in one full session or broken into shorter blocks depending on the child’s needs. Sessions are conducted in a variety of formats (push-in, pull-out, in-group, or out-of-class), so that learning remains relevant, naturalistic, and engaging.

  • Each child also receives one hour of OT with our therapist per week, delivered in a way that best suits their capacity and attention. In addition to these sessions, our occupational therapist designs and refreshes daily obstacle course routines that are practised each morning by all children. These routines support regulation, coordination, and foundational motor skills.

  • Therapists work closely with the education team to align therapy targets with IEP goals and classroom activities. Strategies are reinforced throughout the week, both in one-to-one sessions and within the flow of the day, ensuring continuity and generalisation of skills.

  • Therapy sessions are conducted in small groups of 2 to 4 students, ensuring personalised attention and optimal interaction.

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapy (OT) sessions focus on enhancing gross motor skills, fine motor skills, sensory processing, regulation, and social engagement. We understand that each child is unique, so our approach is tailored to their individual needs, strengths, and interests. We combine evidence-based practices with a child-centred approach to create meaningful and impactful interventions. Through play, engagement, and personalised therapy sessions, we support children in reaching their full potential and achieving success in all areas of development.

DIRFloortime®:

This relationship-based therapy approach focuses on promoting social-emotional development and communication skills. Through interactive play and engagement, DIRFloortime® encourages children to explore their interests, interact with others, and build meaningful connections. This approach emphasizes the child's strengths and interests, allowing therapists to tailor activities to their unique preferences and abilities. DIRFloortime® fosters a supportive and nurturing environment where children feel valued, understood, and empowered to express themselves.

Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI):

This cutting-edge approach emphasises the connection between movement and learning. Through a series of dynamic exercises and activities, DMI aims to improve posture, balance, coordination, and overall motor skills. By incorporating movement into therapy sessions, DMI helps children develop essential skills while engaging in fun and playful activities. The benefits of DMI extend beyond physical development to include enhanced focus, attention, and self-regulation.

Therapeutic Listening:

This sensory-based intervention uses specially designed music to target specific areas of sensory processing and regulation. By listening to carefully selected music tracks, children can enhance their auditory processing, attention, and self-regulation skills. Therapeutic Listening sessions are personalised to meet each child's sensory needs and preferences, providing a therapeutic experience that is both enjoyable and beneficial. This approach promotes relaxation, improved focus, and emotional regulation, helping children engage more effectively in daily activities and interactions.

Speech Therapy

Our speech therapy programme is designed to support children in developing essential speech, language, and communication skills in a fun and engaging way. Through play-based and child-led interventions, we aim to create meaningful opportunities for children to express themselves, connect with others, and build confidence in their communication abilities.

DIRFloortime®:

A relationship-based approach to therapy that focuses on promoting social-emotional development and communication skills. By engaging in interactive play and shared experiences, children learn to communicate their needs, express their thoughts and feelings, and engage with others in meaningful ways. DIRFloortime® emphasises the child's interests and strengths, providing a supportive environment for communication and social interaction to flourish.

Social Thinking®:

Children are taught how to navigate social situations, understand social cues, and develop social-emotional skills. Through structured activities and lessons, children learn to recognise and interpret social signals, regulate their emotions, and engage in appropriate social behaviours. Social Thinking® promotes social awareness, perspective-taking, and effective communication, helping children build meaningful relationships and succeed in social settings.

Hanen® 4 “I”s to Socialise:

The Hanen® 4 “I”s to Socialize program focuses on developing essential social communication skills, including initiation, imitation, interaction, and independence. Through structured activities and guided practice, children learn to initiate conversations, engage with others, and participate in social interactions confidently. The program emphasises the importance of reciprocity, turn-taking, and active listening in effective communication, helping children build meaningful connections with peers and adults alike.
